Before starting to read John: Words to describe Jesus

John 1

John 1 describes the deity of Jesus Christ.

John 1:1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1)

John 1:1 shows us that Jesus is God and is part of the Godhead.

John 1:14: "So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness." (John 1:14)

John 1:14 shows us that God became human. Jesus is God in human form, full of unfailing love and faithfulness.

John 1:42: "Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus. Looking intently at Simon, Jesus said, 'Your name is Simon, son of John—but you will be called Cephas' (which means 'Peter')." (John 1:42)

When you follow Christ, you give permission for your identity to be changed in the way that God seems fitting for you.

John 2

Jesus took it upon himself to help out at the wedding and respected his mother, Mary.

John 2:11: "This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him." (John 2:11)

John 2:11 shows us that Jesus revealed his glory for the first time at the wedding in Cana.

John 2:17: "Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: 'Passion for God’s house will consume me.'" (John 2:17)

Jesus had a passion for God's house, emphasizing the importance of respecting and revering God.

John 2:25: "No one needed to tell him what mankind is really like. He already knew." (John 2:25)

Jesus knows and understands the hearts of all people, demonstrating his omniscience.
